"Her laugh was love at first sight to the blind man in the dark cave."
Alvaro gently set his wife down on one of the chairs on the dining room, appreciating the hearty breakfast that he prepared for her. He told the cook and the maids to take the week off, wanting Genevieve for himself.
The food in the table made his stomach grown with hunger.
The cook he had prepares plenty for the three meals of the day. But this morning, seeing the simple yet mouthwatering creation of his wife, he had a feeling that the cook would have to find another place to work at.
Nobody's eating his dishes anytime soon. Not unless his wife is not around.
Genevieve observed Alvaro as he stared at the food, waiting for him to sit down at the other side of the table so they could eat. But to her surprise, he sat down beside her instead.
Her head tilted to the side. Her Mama Emilia said that when dining with someone, you sit in front of them. So you two could have a proper conversation while having a meal.
This was not like what she's used to.
Noticing her curious gaze on him, Alvaro swiftly spoke. "I like being close to you, mi querida." [My darling]
The blush that bloomed on her cheeks was worth the tease.
"Come." he nodded toward the food, urging her to eat. [Eat]
She nodded once, face still blushing. She intended to serve Alvaro the food. She remembered her Mama Emilia doing the same to her Papa Carlo when he was still living.
Again, to her surprise, Alvaro's hands were already on the food, transferring a decent amount to her plate. His eyes were serious and so intense, even though he was only focusing on giving her food.
Genevieve gushed. He was just so nice and sweet.
Appreciating his actions, Genevieve smiled at her husband. Her cheeks still full of blush.
Alvaro felt his heart skip a beat.
The white and black kitchen suddenly turned brighter and livelier.
It was a miracle, what her smile could do.
Alvaro knew that if she smiled at anyone else, they would immediately fall for her and do anything she wanted. His Genevieve had the whole world wrapped around her finger, she just didn't know it.
They ate in silence, exchanging glances here and there. Genevieve would frequently smile gently at him, too, her blush still coating her cheeks.
She didn't have any make-up on. And Alvaro basked in the idea of how pure and simple she was.
Indeed, she was not like any other. She was special.
His special Genevieve. His precious wife.
After breakfast, Genevieve offered to clean the dishes. Alvaro was about to complain when his phone suddenly rang.
Taking it out from his pocket, he saw that it was Corazon, his secretary. It meant another business that needs to be handled.
He sighed, he didn't want to leave his wife alone to do the chores. He wasn't used to doing so, since he had maids all around the house. But since they weren't here, and Genevieve looked like she was keen on doing household, he was ready to do something he hadn't done before.
But business awaits.
Nearing his wife, he gently pressed a kiss against her forehead, mentally apologizing for leaving her to the chores.
Despite her shyness from his kiss, she smiled at him and kissed his cheek back.
It was a simple moment of intimacy between them, but both of their hearts screamed and gushed at the feeling. For a moment, their eyes locked on each other. Butterflies flew around.
Alvaro's phone rang once again, interrupting their little moment.
She blushed, what seemed like the hundredth time this day, and urged him to answer his call with a nudge of her head.
"Hmm. Take a rest after, mi querida." [My darling]
That was his last words to her before he left the room, immediately answering his call.
Genevieve's eyebrows creased, watching as he disappeared from her sight.
'I don't need to rest, silly! I just woke up!' she wanted to shout after him, but he was already gone.
Shaking her head, she shook off his silliness and continued to wash the dishes. She was already thinking of what she could do next.
And then she remembered what Alvaro said yesterday night.
The dogs!
Quickly finishing her chores, she fixed everything in the kitchen. She was full-on smiling now, her excitement shown.
This was just like the day when her chicks hatched!
Frowning slightly, she wondered if Cheeky and the others were doing well.
Were they fed? Were they warm and cozy with their Mama Hen? Was her Mama Emilia okay?
So many thoughts wondered in her mind again, but she shook it off and concentrated on what she has to do now.
She could ask Alvaro if she was allowed to bring her pets and her Mama here later.
Leaving the kitchen, she searched the house for the dogs. But to no avail, they were nowhere to be found.
"Dogs?" her soft murmurs clouded the almost empty house. "Dogs? Where are you?"
She wanted to call them by their names, but they had none. She had to settle with 'dogs' for now.
"Dogs? Hello? Are you hiding from me?"
She stopped in her tracks, tilted her head to the side, and giggled right after.
"Silly me! Of course they're not! Dogs can't play hide and seek." she shook her head at the thought, giggling continuously "They only play tag."
Her giggles continued while she searched for her new pets, well, their pet. They were initially Alvaro's after all.
A frown was starting to form on Genevieve's face as she searched the whole house and found no dogs. Where could they be?
A pout was on her face when she remembered the mini courtyard that was overlooked from Alvaro's office. It was a moment, but she thought she saw a dog house out there.
Determined, she made her way around the house to the courtyard. Being in it now, she realized how spacious it was. Aside from a few trees, there were only grass on the floor. There were no pretty flowers or plants.
'This house seriously need a Genevieve make-over.'
Nearing the end of the courtyard, she stopped for a few moments to wave at her husband who was staring at her from inside his office, his phone to his ear.
Waving her right hand frantically and a huge smile on her face, she watched as Alvaro slowly smiled back at her. It was small, but it was enough to make her warm.
He was so cute.
Turning back around, she continued her journey to the dog house. Her excitement returned and skipped her steps.
What was she going to name them?
Alvaro watched as his wife skipped through the yard. He could feel how happy she was even from afar. He couldn't even hear what Marco was saying on the other line. He was only focused on Genevieve.
He figured she was looking for the dogs. He could hear the pitter-patter of her feet from outside the office and around the house. As well as her soft murmur of 'dogs' over and over.
She was so adorable.
As Genevieve neared the dogs, Alvaro readied himself in case anything were to happen. He didn't know whether the dogs are tamed. He didn't bother knowing.
He was ready to run outside as Genevieve crouched down in front of the doghouse, her hands on her knees as she urged the dogs to show themselves to her.
He continued to watch as the dogs rose on fours. Both the dogs towered over his little darling, and he was already by the door when the dogs snarled at her.
But to his surprise, Genevieve wasn't fazed at all. In fact, she gently held her hand out and waited for the dogs to get familiar with her.
He was even more surprised when both black dogs nudged her hand and let her pet them.
He heard her giggle, her arms wrapping around both the dog's furry bodies. She hugged them and petted them, her laughs swaying in the wind.
It was like a gentle music that was created by angels.
Alvaro smiled at realization. Even ferocious and scary dogs fell at his darling's feet.
