Burden

Burden

Blog #25:

That Friday night, LaLa and I were seated at our booth in the back of T.G.I Fridays. I told her I wanted to get a bite to eat and catch up, since we've barely had time to talk because of classes and everything.

LaLa: "Ard B, we have two hours before Ms. Perkin's house meeting."
B: "I know. I just wanna catch up. These days I'm either with Ricky or Nick or you're with Ant." I said looking through the menu, even though I already knew what I wanted.
LaLa: "Well you first. Tell me about you and Ricky."
B: "Well he wanted to get a piece of this the other night, but I said no."
LaLa: "You? Say no to him? I'm shocked." she said playfully. I rolled my eyes.
B: "I don't know why you say that. Ricky lied and cheated on me. I don't know; I'm starting to think I'm just keeping him around because he took my virginity. Like that's big and I don't want to let go."
LaLa: "I understand. I wish I held out as long as you. I lost my virginity in 10th grade to Jared Palms, but after I gave it up we stopped talking. It was like a hit and quit thing.. for both of us."
B: "I'm kind of wishing I held out a little longer, myself."
LaLa: "No regrets. Can't change the past. Wassup with Nick?"
B: "Nothing." I said smiling.
LaLa: "Then why are you blushing?" Hearing his name puts butterflies in my stomach.
B: "Well the whole time he drove me around we argued. Then Carly fired me and he felt bad so we went to Walmart to get snacks and stuff for when we watched Netflix."
LaLa: "You got fired? I'm sorry B." she said poking out her bottom lip. I rubbed my lips together.
B: "It's okay, that's what I get. Anyway, Nick and I were watching Netflix and one thing led to another and.."
LaLa: "You didn't!"
B: "We had sex." I started to whisper. "He made me squirt. It was by far the best I've ever had." I laughed, running my fingers through my hair. She made faces like she was excited but surprised.
LaLa: "So where do yall stand? You need to pick one."
B: "You're right. Nick and I were having a little pillow talk about it, too. So I decided I'll tell Ricky the morning of the Winter Royale, since the night before will be the game against Duke."
LaLa: "Oh I get it. You don't want to distract him. Sounds like a plan- speaking of the game against Duke, Ms.Perkins may not let us go."

LaLa was interrupted when the waitress walked up next to her, as I flipped the menu page, looking for desserts.

Waitress: "Hi I'm Vanessa and I'll be taking your order." Her familiar voice made me pick my head up.
B: "You're kidding."
LaLa: "Chill, B."

I hadn't spoken to Vanessa since she did me dirty and I blackened her eye. As soon as she noticed who we were her eyes popped and she choked, looking like she couldn't speak anymore.

LaLa: "Just get us a new waitress." she said calmly. I rolled my eyes because she was still standing there.
B: "Why are you still here?"
Vanessa: "I never got to tell you my side of the story. I got an invite to the Winter Royale, from this girl, Cassie. You know her?"
LaLa: "Yeah. Fuck is ya point?" she asked, turning red. Damn she was more mad than me. That's a ride or die.
Vanessa: "Well I'm going. It's in a week right? I just want us to be on good terms. I don't know what Ricky told you, but I assume it wasn't the whole truth.

LaLa and I looked at each other, debating on whether to listen to her silly ass or continue our conversation.

LaLa: "There is 2 sides to every story, B." she said with one hand under her chin, looking up at Vanessa.
B: "Take a seat." She sat next to LaLa then pushed back her hair.
Vanessa: "Ricky invited me over. He said it was the anniversary of his mom's death, and that he didn't want to burden you, but needed somebody to talk to. When I got there he was hysterical and all over the place. He popped a perk or 2 and I could smell alcohol on his breath. I tried to sober him up and then call you, but he begged me not to."
LaLa: "So... how you end up on his dick?"
Vanessa: "That part was all me. I initiated it but he definitely wanted it to happen. I never meant to hurt you. But he invited me over with the intentions of having sex, because when I got there he was all touchy-feely. I should've left, but I've got my own problems and I needed someone to talk to. He's actually hit me up a couple times after the fact, asking if I could come over again. I turned him down, though. I really am sorry. If you don't believe me I-"
LaLa: "We don't." she said meanly. I nodded my head in agreement.
Vanessa: "Well I have screenshots of our text messages." she said, pulling her blue iPhone from her jeans pocket.
B: "Let me see."

I took her phone and examined the text messages. I wasn't completely convinced, but only because I didn't want to be. At the end of the day that's not my nigga and I was leaning towards Nick, anyway. I handed her back her phone after 5 minutes.

B: "You can go now."
LaLa: "Yeah, get us a new waitress, please."
Vanessa: "I really am sorry. I miss yall friendship. Since Sunday is Halloween but I'll be busy, I'm having a party tomorrow night. A lot of people are gonna be there."
LaLa: "We'll see."

Vanessa walked away and LaLa and I continued our conversation like that never happened. I told her we'd just talk about it another time because I didn't want to make it all about me.

The new waitress walked over. She was a tall and pretty darkskin with big brown eyes and long, wavy weave. We ordered our sodas and food before continuing our conversation.

LaLa: "Ant and I had our first argument."
B: "Why?"
LaLa: "Niggas be making me they woman crush Wednesday on social media. I put "cuffed" in my bio & make it clear that my DM's are closed. I can't control what they post. What else he want me to do?"
B: "He just jealous. At least he cares."
LaLa: "You know Nick and Ricky care about you, right?" she asked, pulling out her mini mirror.
B: "Yeah I know. You and Ant are really goals, though. Without yall two, who are Ricky and I going to look up to as inspiration?" I asked, laughing.
LaLa: "You just said Ricky."
B: "No I didn't. Did I?"

The waitress brought LaLa and I our food. I got a burger and fries, and she ordered buffalo wings. After finishing our food and catching up on LaLa and Ant's sex life (which is pretty spontaneous), we stopped at Starbucks. While waiting in line, Kasey shot me a text saying to be at the meeting in the Alpha Den at 8:30 sharp- no exceptions.

LaLa and I headed back to the house so we wouldn't be late. At the meeting, Ms. Perkins basically said that starting Monday, the whole week was about the Winter Royale and classes.

Ms. Perkins: "The attire needs to be upscale. I want to see heels and not a hair out of place. Get your eyebrows on fleek and nails did- this is practically a sponsoring event. You can't drink as much as our guests because we need to get sponsors. Lastly, behave yourselves. We're all grown women- let's act like it. Alpha Deltas should be desirable and intelligent, among many other things. Let's represent us well. Thank you, ladies!"

Ms. Perkins concluded her speech before leaving the house to deal with a couple things. Almost immediately, LaLa and I left to try and find a dress.

We got in the car and picked up Amy, since she was going, too. The whole time driving from store to store. I couldn't make my mind up on who I was going to choose: Nick or Ricky. It's almost like it's a game, and I'm losing. I just hope by the end of this, I don't end up alone without either one of them.

----------------------Saturday-------------------

Amy, LaLa and myself didn't find a dress, but we were still on the lookout. It was so sad that we were looking for a dress on such short notice when we had months to order one. We spent 3 hours driving around the city.

Amy slept over, and all 3 of us woke up around noon to shower and go shopping again. I called my mom and discussed my tuition and family situations with her. I also lied about still having my job.

Before leaving, I threw on all black and half of my hair up into a bun before grabbing my Michael Kors shades. I hopped in the car with the girls, feeling a bit drowsy. Dealing with classes, a social life, a fraternity and money is extremely draining. Even after over 12 hours of sleep, I still felt tired.

In the car, we blasted our music on the way to a Macy's in the city to make sure we didn't have similar dresses as other girls. Nick called me while we were on the highway and I answered with the phone on speaker.

Nick: "Hey babe."
B: "Hey baby, what you need? I'm out right now."
Nick: "I know you're tired, but I was wondering if you want to grab something to eat for dinner? Maybe come over and watch movies."

Amy and LaLa smiled and made faces as he spoke.

B: "What time?"
Nick: "How about around 8:00."
B: "Okay, you picking me up from my place?"
Nick: "Yeah. Where you at?"
B: "Looking for dresses for the Winter Royale. You should get a tux."
Nick: "Why?"
B: "You'll be my date."
Nick: "Are you asking me to be your date, B?" he asked, cackling.
B: "Yes, so find a grey or black tux."
Nick: "You need money?"
B: "I'm good baby, it's okay."
Nick: "Gimme your card information so I can put the money on it."
B: "I just said no." I said, smiling.
Nick: "You didn't mean it, though. I don't mind spoiling you. You don't ever have to feel like a burden. But call me when you done with your girls."
B: "Okay baby. Bye."

Nick hung up as LaLa and Amy screamed cheerfully, acting childish.

LaLa: "You're lucky. I'm happy that Ricky and I are broke together, but to just spoil you like that? He cares."
Amy: "I wish all men showed their appreciation like that."
B: "Our situation's still complicated. He just wants me to come over and watch Netflix, like Ricky doesn't live in the room down the hall."
LaLa: "He wants to be able to claim you."
B: "I do, too. But yall don't understand.. This is the game of the season. Duke is our biggest rivalry in football and Ricky's so excited to play. I'd never ruin that for him."
Amy: "You better than me. I'm Petty Betty." LaLa and I laughed.
LaLa: "How are you and James, anyway?" she asked, scrolling down her timeline on Twitter.
Amy: "We're okay. I told him he has to show me that he appreciates me. The first step to that is for him to stop drinking. I'd love for yall to meet him when he's sober."
B: "Me, too. With a good girl like you, I'm sure he a good guy."
LaLa: "Her? A good girl? This the same girl that calls herself Petty Betty."
Amy: "Shut up." she said laughing.
B: "Ard yall, get out. We here."

I tried on multiple dresses but nothing fit right or met my expectations for that, woah factor. I checked my card to see if Nick really did wire money to my card, and he did. All $750 of it. My jaw dropped as I told the girls. It felt good to have bragging rights for once in a long time.

Ricky blew up my phone all day as we went from store to store. It got so bad that I had to block him. Sometimes I wonder if I should tell Ricky about Nick and I, at all.

While we were leaving Nordstrom with Amy's sexy black dress and fur vest, LaLa pointed out James and some girl across the street. We couldn't see the girl's face, but we knew she was a tall blonde- taller than James.

LaLa: "Is that James?!" she yelled, tilting her Gucci sunglasses.
Amy: "Where?" I pointed in James' direction. "Downgrade or nah?" she asked, laughing. "I should go over there."
LaLa: "Ames she not even worth it."
Amy: "I'm not gonna fight the girl. Ima just let her know that thats our nigga, and that I sit on it whenever I want."

The girl was a 4 compared to Amy, who's an 8. As Amy walked across the street halting cars, causing them to beep their horns, LaLa and I stood in place cracking up. We didn't think she would actually do it, but once she got over to where James was, he looked bothered.

James had on a white-T, dark jeans and Jordans. By the time we walked over to where the three of them were, standing in front of a baby store, Amy started walking away.

Amy: "Let's go!" she said, turning around to walk back across the street.
LaLa: "Wait, what happened?"
B: "You okay?" I asked. I noticed she was starting to tear up.
Amy: "I'm fine. Let's go."

James hesitantly yelled Amy's name as she walked away. The blonde walked away, too, but she was the girl he chased after.

I don't know what Amy sees in James, but she lowkey cared he was with that girl. Some people just see something in someone, that no one else sees in that person. I felt bad for her.

We walked back to the car with Amy's bags. She sat in the backseat with LaLa, bawling and sniffling. She wouldn't say what was wrong, and after 10 minutes of driving, she started to tell us what happened.

Amy: "He basically told me to shoo, and that I was wildin', blah blah blah. He want to get me back, but how he gonna be on my top about continuing our relationship then just shit on me like that?! In front of that blonde bimbo who had the nerve to get smart, saying they been together for 2 months. I can't believe it."

We were gonna go home but Amy insisted we continued visiting stores for me and LaLa's dresses. It wasn't long before LaLa found a gorgeous black gown in a store called XO Girl. I told the girls I wasn't trying to be difficult, but no matter what I tried on, nothing satisfied me.

We went to more stores looking for a dress for me, and jewelry for all of us. We went back to Nordstrom and I bought a grey fur coat I fell in love with while LaLa was in the dressing rooms. I knew I had to pair whatever dress I was going to where, with that fur coat.

Around 7:00, before getting back to the house, we stopped at a Dairy Queen just off campus to talk some more. We bought our ice cream and made our hair appointments. Afterwards, we made our make-up appointments at Mac, before going back to the house so I could get ready for my date with Nick.

------------------------------------

Nick knocked on the Alpha Delta door as I got off the downstairs couch. I had my hair slicked-back into a bun, and my make-up done. I wore a jean jacket with matching jeans from Hollister, a white crop top and some low-top Converses.

We locked arms as we walked down the Alpha Delta steps, toward the car.

B: "Am I under-dressed?" I asked as he opened the passenger side door.
Nick: "Nope. You're perfect."

We drove to a casual pizza place in the city, and surprisingly, it wasn't crowded. He bought me buffalo wings and himself two slices of pizza.

Nick: "So I just wait until next Saturday, then you're all mine?" he asked, sitting down across from me.

He put my food in front of me before getting up again to grab us napkins. I love how polite Nick is, and how he takes care of me. Money doesn't impress me- it's the thought that counts.

B: "All yours."
Nick: "That's good to hear. Was afraid you'd leave me hanging."
B: "Why?" I asked, eating my wings.
Nick: "You said Ricky took your virginity, right?"
B: "Right."
Nick: "Well I know that's special. But every time you give yourself to me I feel like it's not just like we fuckin. I'm not gonna say it's makin love because.. that's really cheesy but.."
B: "I get what you're trying to say, and I agree. I love being with you and I appreciate our time together. I haven't been hesitant to let people know that you're mine, it's just I know that this game means a lot to Ricky. I don't want to take that away from him."
Nick: "I don't either. That's my mans and all but I'm worried about me. I never caught feelings before."
B: "Well I have feelings for you, too and I promise I'll let him know. One more week."
Nick: "Ard. Onto the next subject: what attracted you to me? Didn't you used to hate me?"
B: "I never hated you. I just used to be jealous of seeing you with other girls. What attracted you to me?"
Nick: "Initially it was that fat ass. But as time went on you grew on me." We started laughing before exchanging a few kisses and hugs.

Tomorrow's Halloween and there's at least 3 parties we're all tryna hit. I know I'll definitely see Ricky tomorrow. Maybe what Vanessa showed me was a bunch of Hocus Pocus. Things aren't always as they seem.
