Chapter 12

Forced Kiss

Shen Yin frowned and asked in confusion, “Then why won’t you let us perform an autopsy? Don’t you want to know who harmed your daughter?”

“It’s not that I won’t agree.” The woman’s eyes shifted as she spoke hesitantly. “Before Wen Wen died, she instructed me not to let anyone touch her body. She told me to just cremate her.”

“Auntie, I have to warn you.” Shen Yin felt more self-assured once she understood the situation. “In the case of sudden or suspicious deaths, we have the right to decide whether to perform an autopsy. Of course, if you agree, that will save us a lot of trouble.”

The woman bit her lower lip and stared tearfully at the smiling portrait of her daughter in the living room. She steeled herself and finally nodded in agreement.

She grabbed Shen Yin’s hand with an agitated expression and begged helplessly, “You must catch the murderer. Please.”

“Don’t worry.” Shen Yin stood up and looked at Meng Heng. “We’ll visit you again if necessary. I hope you will work with us during this investigation.”

“Okay.” The woman stood up and dried her tears. “Take care, officers.”

Shen Yin and Meng Heng took deep breaths after leaving the smelly old building.

They were just passing by and already, they found it difficult to breathe. They really did not know how the people who lived here could tolerate it.

“Sister Shen, where are we going now?” Meng Heng rubbed his nose to get rid of the stench.

“To the hospital of course, stupid.” Shen Yin felt at ease as she sat in the front passenger seat. Meng Heng was stunned for a moment when he heard her address him like that. Then he laughed foolishly, like a young boy.

When they arrived at the hospital, Shen Yin and Meng Heng split up. She looked for the doctor to get Wen Wen’s complete medical record of her hospital stay while Meng Heng went to the morgue to receive the body.

She went to the records room and showed her identification. The old man in the records room naturally did not dare to stop her, so Shen Yin quickly found the medical records.

“Officer, I’m sorry.” The old man stopped her unexpectedly. “You can only read or make a copy here. You can’t take the original. The hospital needs to keep it.”

“All right.” Shen Yin nodded in understanding and handed the file to the old man. “Then please make me a full copy. I’ll come and get it later.”

“Sure.” The old man cheerfully opened the copier and expertly copied the documents.

Shen Yin watched for a while, but grew bored. She wanted to take the opportunity to find a few young nurses who had nursed Wen Wen when she was alive, and ask if anything unusual had happened during her hospital stay.

She could not shake the feeling that the time between Wen Wen’s diagnosis with heart disease and her death from heart failure had been too short. Something must have happened along the way.

Shen Yin made up her mind and prepared to leave. “Take your time. I’ll come back later to get it.”

She left the records room and asked a few nurses before she found the level on which the hospital’s intensive care unit was located.

After exiting the elevator, Shen Yin headed straight for the nurse’s station in the center of the floor. She was walking too fast and accidentally bumped into a man who had just emerged from a ward.

The man was dressed in a familiar long, black trench coat, but he had changed to a light gray sweater. He looked at her with a mixture of scrutiny and amusement. “We meet again. Have you changed your mind and come here to look for me?”

Shen Yin pursed her lips speechlessly and rolled her eyes. She was about to walk past him when he grabbed her wrist.

“Let go!” Shen Yin was really angry. Why did this person like to grab her hand so much? They did not know each other that well!

Lian Jing disliked her disdainful attitude towards him. His tone was displeased. “Why? Now that you’ve seen me, you’re ignoring me? Are you playing hard to get?”

Shen Yin gave him a fake smile. “I suggest you go to the first floor of the hospital and get an X-ray.”

Lian Jing raised his eyebrows and asked her curiously, “Why?”

Shen Yin viciously wrenched her wrist out of his grasp. “Because you need to examine your brain!”

Lian Jing’s expression changed. He kept pressing forward, forcing Shen Yin into a corner.

He could clearly hear his heart beating.

His heart had been beating restlessly and rapidly since he first set eyes on this woman, as if there was a ferocious beast trapped in his body, which would explode at the sight of her.

He bent his head abruptly to her ear and hissed through clenched teeth, “Are you challenging me, woman?”

“Go away.” His chest was getting nearer and Shen Yin pushed away him away. “You can put away the tricks you use for flirting with young girls. They don’t work on me. I’m busy, I have to go.”

Shen Yin turned her body to escape, but Lian Jing pulled her into his arms. Before Shen Yin could react, a rough kiss landed on her unsuspecting lips.
